  • Pathways of invasive species and quarantine measures
  • Mitigation strategies
  • Information sharing systems

About Unit

This Working Party aims to examine global forestry issues related to the unwanted international movement of alien invasive species, including fungi, insects, nematodes, and plants. The increasing emphasis on pathways for movement of alien invasive species will provide a broad focus for the work of the WP. This emphasis provides an opportunity to integrate across a range of invasive organisms so that links to other IUFRO Working Parties dealing with insects, pathogens and invasive plants will be a priority. There are close relations with other IUFRO working parties as well as the International Forestry Quarantine Research Group (IFQRG) affiliated with the Food and Agriculture Organization, International Plant Protection Convention.

Abstract submission

Abstract Format:

  1. Document: No more than one page in length.
    Format: 2 cm margins on top and bottom; 2.5 cm margins at both sides, single-spaced.
  2. Paper Title: Provide a short descriptive title of no more than 20 words.
    Format: Arial, 14 point font, bold, centered.
    Leave one line space.
  3. Authors' Names: Include first and family name in full. Do not include any titles or degrees.
    Format: Times New Roman, 12 point font, bold, centered.
  4. Authors' Affiliations: Affiliations should include the city and country. When more than one author is listed, use superscript letters to match authors and affiliations.
    Format: Times New Roman, 11 point font, centered.
    Leave two lines.
  5. Abstract: Text should be within 400 words.
    Format: Times New Roman, 12 point font.
    Leave two lines.
  6. Corresponding Author: Name, title, institution, address, email.
    Format: Times New Roman, 12 point font.

Guidelines for Oral Presentation

  • All speakers are required to visit the Ichijo Hall in Yayoi Auditorium and submit presentation files at least 10 minutes before each session begins.
  • The hall will be equipped with Intel Core2 Laptop Computer installed with Microsoft PowerPoint (ver. 2010) and Adobe Reader (ver. 10.1.3) operated in Windows XP (Japanese version).
  • To avoid technical problems in the presentation, the use of personal laptops are discouraged (especially Macintosh Laptop) unless the presentation requires special software and/or hardware. In unavoidable circumstances, speakers should bring all the necessary adaptors which are compatible with our LCD projector (RGB Port). To ensure compatibility, speakers MUST check it at the session room at least 10 minutes before the session begins.

Presentation File:

  • Presentation files must be prepared in MS-PowerPoint in English.
  • If fonts other than standard Windows fonts are used, bring the font files along with the presentation file.
  • The PowerPoint presentation file must be submitted in a CD or USB memory and ensure that the file is copied correctly.
  • If the presentation file contains animations, movies, or sound effects, speakers are required to bring all necessary files linked to the presentation.

Presentation Time:

  • Each of presentation time are 20 minutes; 15 minutes for presentation plus 5 minutes for discussion.
  • Please prepare your presentation to fit within 15 minutes.
  • Overruns is not allowed.
  • Seats in the front row are designated for session speakers.

Guidelines for Poster Presentation

  • Scientific posters will be presented throughout the Meeting on panels in the Yayoi Auditorium ANNEX.
  • Each poster will be assigned a unique number which will be posted on the poster panel.
  • Poster board number, location, and days and times to install and remove posters will be communicated to presenters prior to the Meeting.

Prepareing the Scientific Poster:

  • Poster size is A0 (84 cm x 119 cm).
  • Portrait (i.e., vertical) orientation only.
  • Posters may be in any official IUFRO language (English, Spanish, French or German), but English is strongly preferred.
